A. Wulf<\/a>: more resources are wasted in the name of security (without achieving it) than for any other reason, including stupidity. <\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>It seems that everybody&#8217;s at it. The government want to <a title=\"stop ID cards website\" href=\"http:\/\/www.no2id.net\/index.php\">bar-code us<\/a> and charge us for the privilege. My bank forces me to use the <a title=\"a report on the current status of security issues in IE6\" href=\"http:\/\/secunia.com\/product\/11\/\">laughably insecure Internet Explorer<\/a> for business Internet banking and then forces me to use <a title=\"an article on security myths\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cerias.purdue.edu\/weblogs\/spaf\/general\/post-30\/\">&#8220;secure&#8221; p455w0rd5<\/a> and change them every month.<\/p>\n<p>Today, when we wanted to automate our build process, we were told by our console manufacturer that they had taken a decision, internationally, to prevent that. Why? For security reasons. Were these security measures not easily by-passed, it could easily have cost many developers <a title=\"my previous article on manual routine tasks\" href=\"http:\/\/paul.sinnett.name\/archives\/12\">months of productivity in routine downtime<\/a>.
